The ASHOF exists to celebrate Alabama’s impressive sports heritage through its recognition of athletes and other contributors who have brought lasting fame to our state.
Each year, the ASHOF board reviews nominations and votes on the Distinguished American Sportsman, an honor given to an individual (in- or out-of-state) who has made lifetime contributions to humanity and to sports. Previous recipients of this award include former President George H. Bush, Bob Hope, and Roy Kramer.
In addition, the ASHOF selects an annual class of inductees, and over the course of its history has included 5 out of 15 of ESPN’s Top 100 Athletes of the century. Previous inductees of note are Jesse Owens, Hank Aaron, Mia Hamm and Willie Mays.
Robbie is in impressive company, and both as a Birmingham native and our founder and leader, to say we are proud is an understatement.
